Early this year, IBM revealed that it was launching a major research program into what looks like an even more promising technology — the lithium Acer Aspire 6920 Battery. Last month, a company called PolyPlus announced that it had already succeeded in developing one.

PolyPlus, a Berkeley, Calif.-based company has developed single-use lithium Acer Aspire 4310 Battery for the government.
Expected to hit the market in a few years, the company also claims to have rechargeable batteries based on the same lithium metal-air technology in the early stages of development.

Hewlett Packard has unveiled its own contender in response to Dell's announcement of its new Latitude E6400 notebook with up to 19 hours of Acer TravelMate 7220 Battery life. With a monster 12-cell lithium ion battery pack, HP claims that its new EliteBook 6930p is able to achieve 24 hours of runtime.
